Espresso Roast
Rich, grounding, and deeply satisfying — our Espresso Roast is crafted for afternoon pick-me ups and meaningful moments. Perfect pulled as a shot or poured over ice, this roast honors the ritual of stillness and strength in every sip.
Roast Level: Dark
The Roast
This coffee is made in a fluid bed roaster. Some of the key aspects of this roaster produce some of the best flavors in an Espresso coffee.
Fluid Bed – The roaster has no drum, instead high pressure heated air is blown through a perforated sheet at the bottom of the roaster. The air keeps the beans moving around, preventing them from staying in contact with the hot metal surface. This prevents “tipping” which happens in drum roasters when a bean is burnt on the metal. Tipping adds some bitterness to the cup.
High Air Flow – This means that all of the chaff is blown off of the bean. The chaff is a light shell on a part of the bean that falls off during the roasting process. If it’s not taken out quick enough during the roast, it can turn into a tar on the surface of the hot drum, adding more bitterness to the cup.
These two factors are especially important with Espresso.
Computer controls monitor actual temperature of the beans, to get the same roast every time. This is important with Espresso because toward the end of the roast, the beans darken very rapidly.
Our coffee is 100% Arabica, roasted fresh. You will get the best flavor if you grind the coffee yourself.
The Packaging
We package our coffee in 100% backyard compostable bags with 1-way air valves to keep the product fresh. Bags are hand stamped using an innovative carbon-negative ink, the most sustainable on the market.
Add bags to the compost as brown material or fill with kitchen scraps and compost directly. Community compost safe!
The Storage
It is best stored in a cool, dry place. Keep it in the discrete resealable bag or fill your favorite coffee canister. You can keep it longer in the refrigerator, but you should never freeze it.
